Fidel Edwards comes to West Indies squad for Sri Lanka T20Is

Fidel Edwards

Fidel Edwards has been named within the T20I squad for the series against Sri Lanka . The 14-man side also includes Chris Gayle while Akeal Hosein and Kevin Sinclair have received maiden call-ups.

Edwards last played a T20I in 2012 – against Sri Lanka – and returns to the side to spice up the pace-bowling unit. “A s we build towards the defence of the T20 World Cup , the chance is being taken to work out our greatest team and squad as we proceed . Chris Gayle has performed alright in recent tournaments and therefore the selection panel thinks that he can still add great value to our team. Fidel Edwards has been selected to offer the bowling the potent firepower needed,” Cricket West Indies chief selector Roger Harper said.

T20I squad: Kieron Pollard (c), Nicholas Pooran, Fabian Allen Dwayne Bravo, Fidel Edwards, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Evin Lewis, Obed McCoy, Rovman Powell, Lendl Simmons, Kevin Sinclair.
“Jason Holder has shown his all-round value during this format in recent times and after missing a couple of series he will add depth and knowledge to the squad. Akeal Hosein performed alright in Bangladesh [ODI Series] and had excellent stats within the CPL so this is often a chance to ascertain how he equips himself during this format. Kevin Sinclair grabbed our attention within the Super50 Cup back in 2019 and has been consistently economical within the last CPL and therefore the current CG Insurance Super50. He will provide an off-spinning option for the team.”

Andre Russell has recovered from COVID-19 but will miss the series while Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase weren’t considered after failing to satisfy the specified fitness standard. All the regular members of the West Indies T20I side – Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Jason Holde and Evin Lewis – have returned to the side as they appear to create towards the ICC T20 World Cup in India later this year. a number of first-choice players had decided to skip the tour to Bangladesh due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kyle Mayers, who helped West Indies seal a historic series win in Bangladesh, finds a spot within the ODI squad along side Romario Shepherd and Jason Mohammed. The three T20Is are going to be played first – on March 3, 5, and seven respectively – before the ODI series from March 10. the 2 teams will end the tour with a two-Test series from March 21.

ODI squad: Kieron Pollard (c), Shai Hope, Fabian Allen, Darren Bravo, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Jason Mohammed, Nicholas Pooran, Romario Shepherd, Kevin Sinclair.

  1. Super man Edwards. Picked 7wickets that league maybe selected for srilanka vs windies series. After 9 years he hope to play against srilanka. Other thing is Andre Russell. He played really well in LPL league in srilanka. But unfortunately he missed this series. Anyway good come back players has to windies players. We hope to competitive series against both sides. Thank you!
